Dissenter Browser

Dissenter Browser is a user-oriented application inspired by Brave, which lets you employ an alternative to big tech products. Besides the security features, the browser also integrates a small extension that lets you leave comments on any page, even if there is no comment section.

Right at first launch, the app offers you three small steps as a tutorial. It would be advised not to skip this tutorial, as the second step lets you import settings and bookmarks from another browser, and the third one helps you choose the search engine. DuckDuckGo is the default engine, but you can also choose from four more options.

However, you can still get access to those options if you close the tutorial, but you'll have to do it from the browser's settings.

A unique feature is represented by the Dissenter extension. It allows you to leave comments on any page you want, even if there is no dedicated comment section or the comments are blocked. This can be done by clicking on the dissenter icon located at the end of the URL field. Sadly, the comments can only be seen by those who have the dissenter add-on installed, as they can only be accessed from the same tab.

The shield gives you some insight into the fishy stuff going on behind the curtains. Cross-site trackers and scripts are easily detected and displayed inside the shield tab. For example, if you want to know how many trackers are on a page, open the menu and switch to Advanced View. 

You can deactivate some functions of the Dissenter Shields, but that would defeat the purpose of a secure, more transparent browser.

To summarize, Dissenter Browser is an interesting project that can offer a different way of surfing the web, as well as getting your message out there. Even though the comments can only be seen by Dissenter users, this feels like a breath of fresh air when it comes to the wave of online censorship that comes from big tech.
