A new version of Classic Shell was officially released this morning, bringing lots of improvements on Windows, some of which are specifically aimed at the new 8.1 Preview OS update.

Starting with version 3.9.1 beta, Classic Shell can also use the Windows 8.1 Start button for its own Start Menu, so you no longer have to replace it with the default app icon.

In addition, there’s a new item in the main menu to open the Start screen on both Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, while the new setting to skip the Metro screen and boot directly to desktop can also be accessed through the Classic Shell settings panel.

The Windows 7 Start Menu style comes with a brand new option to control the height of the menu, while after installation, the Start button settings are applied immediately, with a preview screen shown in the settings dialog.
