The first release candidate for Blender 2.61 brings to the table some notable features. Among them there is support for motion tracking, a new render engine, apart from Blender Internal and new modifiers.
Although motion tracking is still under development and the basic operations it supports are only for camera tracking it is ready to be used in production.
“Cycles” is the extra render engine and it comes with GPU acceleration capabilities. It is a raytracing engine compatible with interactive rendering, a new shading node system and texture workflow.
A new modifier and physics system has been introduced in Blender 2.61 RC1, Dynamic Paint, designed to turn objects into paint canvases and brushes; it can create image sequences or displacement effects. You can find details on this page.
Ocean simulation tools help you generate a deforming ocean surface and associated texture. These include geometry and wave options.
