We haven't helped them in any way, they claim

Microsoft's new Windows 10 icons, which were first implemented in build 9926, were criticized by many, despite Redmond's expectations to see most of the people actually liking the new design.

IconFactory, one of the companies that actually helped Microsoft design the icons for Windows XP and Windows Vista, says that it wasn't involved in the process of creating Windows 10 icons and explains that the software giant actually created them on its own.

What's more, it adds, the icons we see in Windows 10 Technical Preview might only be placeholders, so they could change in the upcoming updates. Needless to say, IconFactory claims that it's always ready to work together with Microsoft, should it need any help for new icons.

“We have a long history of helping the folks in Redmond, have enjoyed working with them and stand ready should they call on us once again,” it explains.

Microsoft has already stated that the current icons are only part of an early Windows 10 UI, so they could change before the final version of the operating system comes out.

And yet, the recently released Windows 10 Technical Preview build 10041 comes with the very same icons, including the highly criticized Recycle Bin design, so Microsoft most likely needs more time to finalize the design of a new icon pack.
