Since Google has no intention to launch a Metro version of its Maps service, Microsoft was forced to look into its own yard and bring a similar app on Windows 8.1.

The result is called Bing Maps Preview and comes as a free download from the store, allowing users to view street-level panoramas, load high-resolution 3D imagery, check traffic conditions, and receive personalized recommendations for restaurants and businesses.

“Featuring stunning 3D world and city views, the Bing Maps Preview app puts you at the center of a smart, personalized experience that saves you time and helps you get things done. It’s Personal. Make your Windows 8.1 device smarter with personal information and insights where and when you need them,” the app description reads.

As you could easily guess, the app is being offered free of charge and comes with support for both desktops and tablets, so download Bing Maps Preview for Windows 8.1 right now to see what it’s up to.
