A few days ago, it emerged that approximately 40 percent of the Indian banks were still running Windows XP, even though the operating system would go dark in less than six months.

Microsoft has quickly reacted to this new report, saying that staying with Windows XP is extremely risky, especially for financial institutions. The best choice? Windows 8.1, of course.

“We have been advising our customers to move off Windows XP for a long time now. There are a significant number of PCs out there that still need to be moved per a plan. The move to a modern OS like Windows 8.1 will not only alleviate the risks for users and businesses but will also open up opportunities posed by modern technology, like the cloud, for them,” Amrish Goyal, GM, Windows Business Group, Microsoft, India, was quoted as saying by Finextra.

At this point, Windows XP is still powering more than 30 percent of computers worldwide, which could be an indication that Microsoft’s plan to move people to a newer platform isn’t exactly working.
