As part of Patch Tuesday, Microsoft also rolled out a new version of the Malicious Software Removal Tool that allows users to get rid of specific infections and clean almost every Windows version currently on the market, including the old Windows XP, which no longer receives updates and security patches.

Microsoft hasn’t provided any release notes for this new version of the app, but the update is now being shipped to Windows users worldwide together with the other patches released today, so make sure you install this one too in case you’re trying to get rid of some computer infections.

And yet, keep in mind that the Malicious Software Removal Tool is not an anti-virus solution and doesn’t offer real-time protection. Its only purpose is to help clean some specific forms of malware and nothing else, but it can really come in handy when your anti-virus app cannot remove found infections.

Anyone should be able to use Malicious Software Removal Tool because it comes with a wizard that guides you throughout the entire process, so it’s all just a matter of clicks until the scanning process actually starts.

Needless to say, since it’s developed by Microsoft, it should really be effective against the known forms of malware, so go ahead and download Malicious Software Removal Tool to give it a shot right now and see if it helps clean your computer.
