Satya Nadella says Windows Phone is here to stay

Back in 2014, there were some people who said that Microsoft should get rid of some of its products and focus entirely on Windows and Office, its two main cash cows that generate a big part of its profit and even cover the losses caused by other divisions, such as the Surface.

Windows Phone was one of the products that some people said that Microsoft should get rid of, but the company is now ready to roll out the first preview builds of Windows 10 for phones, confirming that it has no intention to abandon its smartphone plans anytime soon.

As if this idea weren’t clear enough, Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella said in an interview with ABC that “Windows Phone is absolutely here to stay,” confirming once again that the Redmond-based tech giant is planning to continue investments in mobile products.

And this thing is not at all surprising. The company has recently completed the acquisition of Nokia’s Devices and Services unit and is working to bring Windows 10 for phones to users across the world, so there’s no reason to do that for now.

In the meantime, it’s also rethinking its strategy for tablets and it looks like Windows RT might be axed in the near future in favor of tablets that can fully deliver a genuine Windows experience, such as the Surface Pro 3 model that runs Windows 8.1 Pro.
