Bing continues to be the only powerful rival for Google in the search engine market, and the latest results provided by comScore for the United States show that Microsoft actually managed to bring in more users in early 2015.

In February 2015, Microsoft’s search engine achieved a market share of 19.8 percent, up 0.1 percent from the month before, while Google remained the clear leader of this side of the market with a share of 64.5 percent, an increase of 0.1 percent over the previous month.

Unfortunately for Marissa Mayer and her Yahoo empire, their search engine market went down 0.2 percent in February to 12.8 percent, while the Ask Network stagnated to 1.8 percent.

As far as Bing is concerned, it’s pretty clear that Microsoft still has a very long way to go before becoming a really challenging rival for Google, but the Softies know this very well.

Back in 2013, Microsoft’s former CEO Steve Ballmer admitted this publicly during a company press conference, explaining that, while Bing was well behind Google, the software firm was the only company in the world that could actually compete with the Mountain View-based search giant.

In the meantime, Microsoft has improved Bing to evolve from a simple search engine to a stand-alone platform, so the service is now at the core of Windows 10 and a number of additional technologies, including Cortana and Spartan browser, the new app that will replace Internet Explorer in the future.
