Windows boss Julie Larson-Green announced at the Wired Business Conference on May 7 that Microsoft would release the new Blue operating system next month at BUILD in preview form.

In addition, Larson-Green revealed that Windows 8 users planning to make the switch to Blue would find the upgrade in the Windows Store, so the transition will be a seamless and very fast process, most likely offered free of charge.

No other details have been provided on Blue, but the new Windows chief hinted that a Start button might be after all released in the next Windows version due this summer.

In addition, sources familiar with the matter have indicated that Microsoft is also pondering the introduction of a new option that would allow users to skip the Start Screen and boot directly to desktop, in an attempt to make the upcoming operating system a bit more familiar.
