Avira proceeds to slim down the configuration panel

Avira started to roll out update 13 for their line of products, whose main purpose is to remove the switch to “Expert mode” in the configuration menu.

Sorin Mustaca, Avira product manager, announced in a blog post today that the company decided to make this move because many users would enable the advanced configuration panel in order to set up the product for optimum performance.

According to the company, the reason for this behavior is the Avira user becoming savvier with regards to security-related products and how they work to keep them safe.

Starting this update, Avira users will see all the options present in the product’s configuration screen, no matter how complicated they are.

However, the company plans to reach a compromise and remove the surplus of settings (those that are obsolete or enabled by default and without any reason to be deactivated). This is not going to happen overnight, though, and definitely not without first checking with the users (Avira touts over a 100 million users).

The change may not be visible right away to everyone since the update is approximately a week-long process and affects all products and supported languages.

At the moment Avira Internet Security has been updated with the new configuration panel.

Avira products are available for download here.
