Windows 8.1 Update 1 is already available for download thanks to a leaked ISO, but several screenshots have also reached the web to disclose some of the features that are going to be part of the upcoming release.

The Start screen is going to receive several improvements in order to be more appropriate for desktop computers, including new menus that would allow users to resize the tiles easier.

At the same time, Microsoft is planning to allow users to pin Metro apps to the taskbar and thus bring together the Modern UI and the desktop for a merger that’s scheduled to take place in Windows 9.

Windows 8.1 Update 1 is scheduled to be unveiled on March 11 and is expected to be shipped to users via Windows Update in order to avoid download problems experienced through the store.
