Windows 8.1 Update 1 is now available for download in an unofficial form for those who want to give it a try, so we can finally have a glimpse at the feature lineup of what’s to become the first major update for Windows 8.1.

Even though it was initially rumored that Windows 8.1 Update 1 could also bring back the traditional Start Menu, this leaked build confirms that such a feature won’t be part of this update and Microsoft would most likely wait until Windows 9 to reintroduce it.

Windows 8.1 Update 1, on the other hand, brings quite a lot of improvements, including new Start screen options and power options that let users shut down and reboot their computers faster.

At the same time, adopters are also allowed to pin Metro apps to the taskbar in order to launch them with ease, which is actually a hint that Microsoft could merge the two working environments with the launch of Windows 9.
