VideoLAN has recently presented some new screenshots showing VLC for Windows 8.1 in action, but the team behind the project has also shared more details about the application.

While it did confirm that VLC for Windows 8.1 would get a completely reworked interface that’s designed to take full advantage of touch-capable devices, the company also revealed that the app would be submitted to the store in a couple of days, which means that a launch could be announced by the end of the week.

“What you see is the current state of the application, that we are going to submit in the next couple of days,” VideoLAN said in a short note.

VLC for Windows 8.1 will also support Windows RT devices, which means that those who have already purchased a Surface RT tablet will also be allowed to download and install the app.
