Want a Windows 7-like Start menu in Windows 10? You got it

They say the new Start menu that’s available in Windows 10 doesn’t boast the same handy layout and features as the one in Windows 7, so it comes as no surprise that so many people are hoping to see more changes implemented before the new OS gets the green light.

But chances to get a Start menu classic mode similar to the one imagined by concept designer Matthew Langdon are very small.

As you can see for yourselves in these screenshots, the Start menu could indeed look a little bit more familiar to those coming from Windows 7, despite the integration of the live tiles borrowed from the Windows 8 Start screen.

The catch is that live tiles are now placed on the left side of the Start menu and the app list is on the right, which is more like Windows 7. The classic mode, on the other hand, inherits the familiar design of the Windows 7 Start menu and doesn’t come with any live tiles at all.

In Windows 10, users can also remove all live tiles and stick to a rather simple design, but Microsoft isn’t offering an easy way to do this. At least, not right now. The company, however, has said that most of the elements we see right now are part of an early UI, so if you hope to see a Start menu looking more like in this concept, make sure you drop a line in the box below to make your voice heard.
