Windows 8.1 will go live in just a few weeks, but many users have already downloaded either the official builds published on MSDN and TechNet or a leaked ISO that reached the web more than a month ago.

As a result, Windows 8.1 is improving its market share at a very fast pace, with statistics provided by Net Applications indicating that Microsoft’s upcoming update is now running on 0.87 percent of computers worldwide.

That’s an increase of no less than 0.63 percent over the previous month, which shows that Windows 8.1 is gaining users much faster than the core Windows 8 OS.

At this point, Windows 8 has a share of 8.02 percent, but the posted increase accounts for just 0.61 percent. This could only be good news for Microsoft, as the tech giant hopes that Windows 8.1 would be a much more appealing product that has what it takes to revamp the Windows platform altogether.
