Microsoft has just released an update for the Windows 8.1 Reader app that brings some important fixes for users of the Modern UI.

The application, which serves as the default tool for Windows 8.1 users who want to open PDF, XPS, and TIFF files, has been affected by some bugs that affected the overall reliability and caused data loss in some cases, but Microsoft has been hard at work to address them in this new version.

According to the official release notes published in the store, “this version has been updated to improve reliability and to address data loss issues,” so expect enhanced stability and performance after deploying this build.

The feature lineup remains unchanged even though a new version is up for grabs, so you get the same options to fill in forms, add notes, and highlight content, save, share and print documents and quickly return to files you’ve opened recently.

Support for all Windows 8.1 versions continues to be offered, which means that you can install it on both desktop computers and tablets running either Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1.

Overall, this new update is a must have for all users out there who installed Microsoft’s modern platform, so download Reader for Windows 8.1 to see what’s new.
