14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft is reportedly focused on improving digital ink and pens support in the coming products, including Windows, Office, Surface, and Perceptive Pixel devices.
A report published by ZDNet and citing a video posted by Microsoft Research on May 14, which has since been removed, reveals that a future Windows version could also come with new digital ink capabilities, although no details have been provided.
Microsoft Program Manager Tucker Hatfield suggested that Windows 9 could be the next OS version to get such capabilities, but information coming via unofficial channels point out that other products are also expected to get it, including Office Gemini, which is the touch-optimized version of the productivity suite specifically developed for Windows 8.
Surface tablets would obviously benefit from this improved support for digital inking tech, but it's too early to say whether the models that could launch this week in New York are bringing such enhancements or not.
Microsoft is expected to launch the Surface Mini during a private press conference in New York on May 20, as well as a larger Surface that could help the company compete with high-end laptop manufacturers. No specifics are available at this point, but expect the company to share full details tomorrow at the event.
