14 DAY TRIAL // Windows continues to be the number one option for PC users worldwide, despite a more competitive climate in the OS market, and new statistics show that no less than 91.56 percent of the desktop computers are still running Microsoft's software.
Data provided by Net Applications shows that in January 2015 no less than 91.56 percent of the PCs were powered by Windows, while Mac OS X came second with 7.11 percent. Linux is far behind with only 1.34 percent, which means that, as far as the consumer market is concerned, the open-source platform is still the third option.
Windows, on the other hand, managed to increase its share from 91.45 percent recorded in December 2014, but it's still behind the record market share that it reached in September 2014, when no less than 91.98 percent of the world's computers were powered by Microsoft's platforms.
And yet, hopes are high that an even bigger market share could be reached soon, as Microsoft continues development of another operating that's expected to bring more people on board.
Windows 10, which will include several new and innovative features, such as personal assistant Cortana and a refreshed browser called Spartan, is currently in the works and could see daylight in the fall of 2015. Microsoft sees Windows 10 as a new beginning, as it's expected to convince more users to upgrade and to dump their non-Windows OS.
