8K videos start popping up on YouTube. Now what?

Nothing escapes the Reddit community, and this was proven once again when YouTube started rolling out 8K support for their video player.

While only properly supported on Google Chrome browsers, and barely even there, 8K videos are set to be the norm when it comes to video quality for future shooting devices, also being a minimum threshold for high-quality VR imagery.

With only a handful of devices capable of shooting 8K videos, this change might seem useless at this point, but for every new feature a starting point must exist.

In our tests, we barely could find five 8K videos on the entire website, and even those we could barely play, having limited support for 60fps speeds and an obvious lack of any proper support for the 8K resolution.

You'll probably also have the same problems when trying to view one of these videos, especially if you don't have an 8K capable monitor so you can truly enjoy the visuals.

Contacted by 9to5Google, a YouTube representative said 8K videos were always supported, even back in 2010. The only thing that changed is the new label that can be selected from the video player's stream quality popup.
