Microsoft keeps investing in AI chatbots, and after experimenting with several of them, the company comes back with another one specifically aimed at the Indian market and capable of chatting about Bollywood, music, travel, and browsing.

Called Ruuh, this new AI chatbot was first launched in early February and is available on Facebook here, serving as the successor to Tay, Xiaoice, and Zo.

In a statement for Zdnet, Microsoft says experimenting with chatbots is the company’s new thing, and just like before, Ruuh could become available to more users in the coming months, most likely beyond India, should testing prove successful.

“At Microsoft, we're focused on helping people and organizations achieve more through new conversation models. We're excited about the possibilities in this space and are experimenting with a limited pilot program of a new chatbot that's focused on advancing conversational capabilities within our AI ambition. We hope to expand this chatbot to a broader audience in the future,” the firm said.

The first AI chatbot called Tay was a failed experiment for Microsoft. After launching it on Twitter, Tay learned from its users all kinds of inappropriate remarks, including racist comments. Microsoft took Tay offline shortly after the public debut and made all its AI chatbots immune to racist comments, as it tried not to make the same mistake twice.

For the moment, Ruuh is limited to India, but depending on how the testing goes, it could launch in other countries soon.
