VMware has announced a free upgrade for all current-version customers as it prepares to launch Fusion 8.5 and Fusion 8.5 Pro, giving users the possibility of moving to the new release without paying and of enjoying support for Windows 10 Anniversary Update, Windows Server 2016, and macOS Sierra.

The launch will take place on September 7, VMWare has announced, and support for Windows Server 2016 will be added when the server platform becomes available.

The macOS Sierra version will also include support for personal assistant Siri (as Apple is bringing this feature to the desktop), as well as tabs, so you’ll be able to work with multiple virtual machines at the same time without having to open a new window.

“This is an exciting release for us because it marks the first time that we have provided a yearly update for no additional cost to current-version customers. We’ve been holding the surprise in for some time, so we’re very excited to finally share this with the world,” VMware has informed us today.

Adding support for the new OS version was a key priority for VMware, especially because the majority of IT admins are already looking at the new operating systems from Apple and Microsoft for a possible upgrade. Microsoft’s new Windows 10 Anniversary Update went live on August 2 while Apple is expected to launch macOS Sierra (currently in beta) in the coming weeks.
