The cloud-powered clipboard is a new feature in RS3

Microsoft has announced at Build today the so-called cloud-powered clipboard, a completely new feature that makes it possible to copy and paste from one device to another.

This is possible with cloud power, and previously Windows users were able to do this with third-party apps, so Microsoft is now trying to integrate this feature in the operating system.

Basically, you should be able to copy content on a specific device and then paste it on another that’s logged in with the same Microsoft account.

“This will work in Windows 10 without developers needing to modify their apps. It will be possible to add value on this though,” Joe Belfiore said at Build.

Users can be allowed to paste with keyboard or with a context menu, and these APIs will be available to everyone, Belfiore explained.

The new cloud-powered Clipboard coming in Windows 10 has its origins in OneClip, a Microsoft Garage app that was developed as an experimental tool that was well received by the community.

What’s interesting is that the new clipboard tool will work across all devices and not just Windows, with Microsoft offering support for mobile phones as well, including Android and iPhones. Again no word on Windows phones, but there shouldn’t be a problem to make this available on Windows 10 Mobile as well.

“With the Falls Creators Update, Windows 10 loves all your devices,” Belfiore continued.

This new feature will become available to insiders in the next build, while everyone else will get it in September when the Falls Creators Update becomes available.
