The Internet has its bad parts too, in fact, it has so many, that an accidental click in the wrong space can lead to unimaginable damage to your computer and privacy. However, malicious content is also delivered via portable storage devices, and this is the reason specialized applications like USB Device Protection got created.
After a short while spent setting up the application, you’re free to run it and check out the set of features. Just make sure your computer is fitted with .NET Framework for proper functioning, but this shouldn’t be a problem with modern Windows iterations.
Putting it to the test may seem a little tricky since you don’t just own a special USB flash drive with malicious programs and worms on it. However, once you plug it in, chances are Windows lets you know something’s going on, but if the application is activated, it automatically scans and repairs it. You notice not even Windows notifies you again.
Before you hurry to judge the application, you need to know it’s not just an ordinary Autorun.ini file remover, but on the contrary, it doesn’t even touch it if it’s clean. What’s more, your whole effort narrows down to simply plugging in the suspicious USB flash drive.
The application spends all of its time in the system tray. Truth be told, the set of features you’re given control over leaves a lot more to be desired. In other words, there’s nothing other than the option to make it automatically run at startup, and keep it active, scanning every USB flash drive you plug in.
Moreover, if you’re not paying attention to the first few seconds, you don’t even know whether or not the application did anything or not. There’s no history of activities, not can you view logs other than the post-scan balloon pop-up.
To sum it up, USB Device Protection comes with good intentions, and wants to shut one more door for harmful programs. However, it takes everything into its own hand, and this lack of information sharing not only does it seem suspicious, but doesn’t guarantee it gets the job done until the moment of impact.
