ScareAware Review by
3.0/5

ScareAware is a small software application whose purpose is to help you scan your computer for scareware and adware, as well as remove infections. Scareware is a malicious malware infection designed to trick users into buying and downloading useless software. They are usually displayed in the form of popup messages that resemble Windows system messages.

The utility is able to recognize various types of threats, such as PcsSecure, Win32.Zimuse, Desktop Security 2010, ApcSecure, ProtectSoldier, ProtectDefender, ArmourDefender, DefendAPc, MalwareRemovalBOT, Personal Security, Antivir, WinSecurity360, Redirect IE Toolbar, Ghost Antivirus, Hotbar, Zango, Freeze, (Partial Removal) Ardamax Keylogger, BaiduBar, MyWebSearch, Ask ToolBar, BSPlayer, RegTool, Live Enterprise, Antivir 2010, MyPcSecure, afePcAv, Paladin Antivirus, Advanced Defender, Security Antiviru, and Antimalware Defender.

ScareAware can be controlled only via the command-line console. It makes the configuration task a simple process which can be followed even by less experienced users. It does not come with support for a help manual, but it shows hints and useful tips directly in the command-like console.

It is recommended (but it’s not mandatory) to run the application in safe mode. It also important to make sure you have the latest version of the program in order to detect and get rid of the newest infections. Updating the utility can be done via the CMD panel.

Tests have shown that ScareAware carries out a scan task quickly and without errors. It does not eat up a lot of CPU and memory resources so the overall performance of the computer is not affected.

At the end of the scan process the tool automatically creates a log file (‘ScareAware.txt’) and saves it to the folder where ScareAware is installed. The log file includes information about the date, time when you started and completed the scan, as well as found infections.

All things considered, ScareAware comes with handy features for helping you fight against scareware and adware. You should know that the app does not act as an antivirus product and offer real-time protection against the latest threats. You still need to have an antivirus program installed on the target computer.
