ArgoUML is a compact Windows application built specifically for helping you design, create, and manage various UML projects.

Since this is a Java-based application, you should make sure you have previously installed the working environment on the computer.

It sports a clean and straightforward interface that gives users the possibility to create various types of diagrams, namely use case, class, sequence, collaboration, state, activity, or deployment ones.

ArgoUML comes packed with several dedicated parameters for helping you design each diagram, as you can draw various objects (e.g. circles, rectangles, lines) which can be moved to any area of the working environment by simply dragging and dropping them, and embed text messages.

What’s more, you can zoom in or out of the workspace, insert or delete objects, import and export data from/to XMI file format, set the preferred size, as well as align or reorder the components.

There are several tweaking options that enable you to customize the layout of the diagrams, as you can change the background and line color, and add information about the author, version, date, size, and documentation.

The diagrams can be printed or exported to PNG, GIF, PS, EPS, or SVG. During our testing we have noticed that the tool offers very good image quality, and no errors showed up throughout the entire process.

All things considered, ArgoUML comes packed with useful features for helping you design UML diagrams but the layout is not very intuitive, and it proves to be pretty difficult to understand the function of each built-in parameter.
