Every Windows iterations brought about new or improved ways of customizing your desktop. This includes wallpaper changing methods, as well as screensaver operation modes. Needless to say that you can rely on third-party components to further enhance customization, and Screen Saver Override is the type of app to get better control over screensavers.
Setup is over before you realize, and the application is automatically launched once the installer closes. You find it quietly sitting in the tray area, so don’t be scared if nothing shows up on the desktop. An appropriate menu is revealed when interacting with the icon to easily trigger several functions, or access the preferences panel.
Down in the preferences menu you find several options with which to automate screensaver operations. There’s the possibility to set idle time before the screensaver kicks in, and this is the lack of mouse activity. You can configure a hotkey command to manually activate the preset screensaver.
You can have the application start in standby mode, and even take program out of standby mode when moving the mouse, or set the delay in seconds to act as power failure alarm. By default, the program is set on standby mode, so that it only activates whenever the computer is fully idle.
More options can be found in the tray menu. These are toggled at the press of a button, and can make screensavers loop, enable the power monitor to save energy, which is especially useful on laptops, lock out, or have screensavers run with applied transparency.
Taking everything into account, Screen Saver Override doesn’t want to replace default methods of handling your screensaver, but rather enhance them. A power monitor can be enabled to preserve as much energy as possible, transparency adds a cool playback effect, while looping can be applied for a greater variety.
