Sat Image Downloader
Sat Image Downloader is a lightweight Windows application whose purpose is to help users download satellite images from Google Maps.
Since this is a portable program, it is important to mention that it doesn’t leave any traces in the Windows Registry.
You can copy it on any USB flash drive or other devices, and take it with you whenever you need to download satellite photos on the breeze, without having to go through installation steps.
This is an ad-supported tool, so the user interface is not quite clean. as it displays some advertising material during its runtime.
Sat Image Downloader gives you the possibility to grab images from Google Maps by configuring the dedicated parameters related to the minimum and maximum values of x and y coordinates, zooming option, and JPG compression mode.
By default, the program automatically saves the downloaded items to “VGR-SAT” directory, so you are not allowed to pick a target destination.
Sat Image Downloader saves the images to JPG file format and downloads georeference files as well (JGW and PRJ file format). As the end of the downloading task, the utility automatically opens the image using your default application.
Since there aren’t many configuration settings even less experienced users can master the entire process with minimum effort.
During our testing we have noticed that Sat Image Downloader carries out the downloading process quickly, and without errors throughout the entire process. It doesn’t eat up a lot of CPU and memory, so the overall performance of the computer is not affected.
As a conclusion, Sat Image Downloader seems to be the right choice in case you are looking for an easy-to-use application that bundles only a few functions.
