MUTE File Sharing

File sharing has greatly evolved over the years, thanks to advancements in technology, especially when it comes to the Internet. One method in particular makes sharing quite fast and secure. It’s called peer-to-peer, and with applications like MUTE File Sharing, you can set up your computer to become one peer, share for files of interest, and grab them as fast as your connection allows it.

It’s best not to go like a knife through butter when setting up the application, not that because there’s any potential threat hidden inside, but there’s no option to have a shortcut placed on your desktop, nor to launch it automatically, and you might end up looking for it, in case you haven’t paid attention to the deployment directory.

Once it runs, a prompt asks for a random input of characters in order to determine a security key to encrypt the data that leaves your computer, so it’s not easily traceable. This key doesn’t need to be remembered, and you’re only asked at the first run.

In terms of visuals, there’s nothing to make it stand out from the crowd. A simple window frame is used to house all features, with several tabs letting you easily navigate through search, downloads, friends, uploads, connection, and settings. What’s more, a folder needs to be selected and used to share files you want.

However, there’s not actually a list of files or users found, so you don’t really know whether or not you’re going to find stuff of interest, if you manage to find anything at all. Tested out on multiple PCs, we weren’t able to locate any file, regardless of the computer used to initiate the search. In fact, tests only concluded in a long waiting game, with different connection sets and options that were unable detect anything.

To sum it up, MUTE File Sharing doesn’t bring anything new on the market of file sharing, with the peer-to-peer method being around for quite some time. What’s more, initiating a search only seems to last forever, with no prompt for results, nor anything other than a constantly moving slider that goes back and forth, creating more frustration than actually helping out.
