IE AdBlock is an ad remover for the Internet Explorer users who need to browse the Internet without being distracted by ads and banners. This add-on intends to help you block the unwanted ads and popups with minimum effort.
Smooth installation and easy-to-use environment
The setup process is quite typical and does not bring any kind of unpleasant surprises, while the interface you come across is quite intuitive and encloses a pretty well-organized layout with a few tabs for quick access to all available options. As a result, all types of users can find their way around it without facing any kind of difficulties.
Options you can configure with ease
This small application intends to block the ads on all pages and incorporates some buttons in IE’s main window. You should know it is possible to create black and white lists by simply adding the appropriate URL or some regular expressions.
In addition to that, you can view the total number of items cached and remove them, show performance messages (for debugging) and choose the items you want IE AdBlock to handle from a list (e.g. applets, embedded objects, images, scripts, frames etc.).
Unfortunately, the add-on is no longer supported and has not been updated in quite a while. It can be downloaded and installed, even on a Windows 8 64-bit operating system, yet in our tests it did not work at all. However, it might still function on older versions of IE.
Conclusion and performance
Taking all of this into consideration, IE AdBlock is not an effective tool for blocking ads when browsing the Internet, at least for newer versions of Internet Explorer. Despite its status, it is quite simple to handle, and those still using, for example, IE 6 or 7 might find use for it.
