As the name of this program implies, Ipod Media Extractor allows you to extract media files from your iPod device. It can be seamlessly handled by users of any level of experience.
The app is wrapped in a plain interface with an intuitive layout. Once you connect your iPod to the computer, a list of all available media files is automatically displayed; the utility reads the 'iTunesDB' file from the device.
So, you can view your songs according to the artist or album, as well as find out specific information on each item, namely the name, artist, album, track number and genre of the song.
All you have to do is select which items you want to extract, specify the output directory, and proceed with the task. It is possible to process multiple entries at the same time.
From the 'Options' screen, you can configure some settings; it is possible to pick the output format of the filename (e.g. .mp3), as well as to enable Ipod Media Extractor to override the iPod drive.
The simple-to-use tool runs on a low-to-moderate amount of CPU and system memory, is pretty responsive to commands and quickly finishes an extraction job. The output files have a good sound quality. We have not come across any problems during our tests; Ipod Media Extractor did not freeze, crash or display error dialogs.
On the downside, the media processing tool has limited features. For example, you cannot preview songs or make Ipod Media Extractor automatically power off the computer or to open the output directory when all tasks are done. Unfortunately, the tool has not received any updates for a long time.
