The quality of an audio file is mostly determined by the codec used to bundle all bits of code together. Some audio formats are lossless, which means quality doesn’t suffer any changes through transitions, or conversions. Since the application doesn’t need to be installed in order to function, you can just as well store it on a thumb drive to carry it with you along with other processing tools you need for daily activities. Portability, at least in this case, helps keep the target PC intact because registry entries don’t need to be modified to enable any functions.

The name perfectly suggests you get to work with audio files. Although you can only import MP3 files, the application can generate WMA and WAV after changing bitrate. Unfortunately, only one file is processed at a time. Loading one needs to be done through the browse dialog, because dropping it over the main window has no effect.

Even if you have no experience in processing audio files, the application keeps things pretty clear. For instance, you only need to select bitrate as a specific parameter, with a single mouse click being enough. New bitrate can be anything from 12 to 325 kbps.

However, increasing the bitrate of an audio file doesn’t automatically increase its quality, and this is because the MP3 audio format is not of lossless quality. Sure enough a file can be encoded with a different, even higher bitrate, but with no change in quality, or a slight chance that it only gets worse.

All things considered, MP3 Quality Modifier provides a clean, intuitive environment and set of tools with which to adjust the quality of MP3 files. Sadly, you need to process one file at a time because it lacks a batch processing mode. On the other hand, it’s sure to help change the bitrate configuration, and even convert to other popular audio formats.
