Music enthusiasts are well aware that it takes more than a little talent to create an audio work of art. Various machines post-process recorded sound in order to provide a polished result for the listener. One step in the long post-processing operation is encoding so that quality is greatly improved. Nero AAC Codec provides the basic command line to do so, while Simple NeroAacEnc GUI just wraps it up in a simple interface.
Getting the application deployed on your system only takes several seconds, because no installation process is required. This way, Windows registries are kept intact and you can easily keep it on a removable storage device.
The interface is not something to get your attention, all available features being stored in tabs, with the overall design kept classic. Even if there is no included help manual, even beginners quickly manage to find out what can be accomplished.
One of the first steps is to add a file to be processed. This is either done through the dedicated menu, which also displays supported formats, like WAV, MP3, Vorbis, AC3 or Avisynth scripts, as well as by dragging them over the main window.
Output folder can also be set, and you can choose to change the extension to M4A, or even set the number of CPU threads to use for a faster process, but at the cost of system resources.
Additional settings let you manage several encoder details. Bitrate can be set to VBR, ABR or CBR, each with dedicated tweaking possibilities. What's more, advanced users will feel at home, the application also providing options to add custom parameters and even choose the codec profile to use.
Another implemented feature lets you modify tags, by simply writing down artist name, album and year. Every action is displayed in a real-time updating log visible in the lower part of the interface. Before the result can be obtained, you need to specify AAC required executables, because the application does not automatically detect them.
Taking everything into consideration, we can say that Simple NeroAACEnc GUI is a simple, yet efficient means to encode audio files to get better quality, if working with command lines is not comforting. Even though it feels a little rough around the edges, with a little polishing needed to be done, the end result is what you are looking for.
