The wide availability of standard GM/GS files is certainly cool if you own a GM-compatible keboard (like the Ketron SD1): playing a track it's just Load & Play.
However, if you are searching for some professional results, then you know you always have to edit sound settings. That's where usually the trouble begins.
In fact, most Ketron SD1 settings are written into midifiles as System Exclusive messages (i.e. obscure strings of hexadecimal values. For example, F0 26 7B 00 00 01 F7 sets Reverb 1 type to "Box_2".)
