Color Inpainting

Color Inpainting is a lightweight plugin developed for Paint.net users, which enables them to add color to any greyscale part of an image using the coloring information from the remaining area of the photo. It's mostly made for casual users who have just started getting to know this advanced graphic editing application.

Installing it takes minimal time and effort, since all you have to do is copy the downloaded DLL file to the "Effects" folder in Paint.net's location, whether you have the installer or portable version at hand. Just make sure to restart the program if it was already launched prior to the file copying operation.

From this point on, the add-on can be accessed from the "Color" submenu of the "Effects" menu after loading an image and selecting the part of the photo containing the monochrome area.

The main configuration panel of Color Inpainting is small and displays a slider, giving you the possibility to adjust the blending factor by moving it, entering its numerical value, or clicking two buttons to raise or lower this level one unit at a time. It can be restored to default.

During this time, you can keep an eye on the photo to check results before applying settings. This way, you can easily go back and make adjustments to finalize the project.

Although it hasn't been updated for a long time, we haven't come across any compatibility issues with the latest edition of Paint.net in our tests. The utility didn't stop being responsive throughout its runtime due to the new extension.

Pictures were swiftly rendered during the preview mode as well as after committing the modifications. Thanks to its intuitive features, Color Inpainting can be seamlessly handled by anyone.
