PictureGirdle

PictureGirdle is a lightweight and straightforward software application designed to help you resize and resample image files. It supports JPG, BMP, GIF, PNG, TIF and WMF.

This is a portable tool, so PictureGirdle does not come with an installation package. In other words, you can save the app to a removable drive, store it on any computer and directly run its executable file.

More importantly, no entries are added to the Windows Registry and no files are left behind after program deletion. Plus, you can always have PictureGirdle with you when you're on the move.

The interface of the tool does not excel in the visual department but PictureGirdle has a pretty intuitive layout. You can load an image into the list by using either the file browser or 'drag and drop' function. Unfortunately, you cannot process multiple items at the same time.

All you have to do is specify the new width and height or the respective photograph, as well as toggle between OPT and MAS mode. The initial and output image can be previewed within the main frame.

PictureGirdle allows you to convert images to any of the supported formats, as well as to configure the threading level, in order to speed up processing (up to eight threads).

The program needs a moderate amount of system resources to complete a job in reasonable time. It didn't freeze, crash or pop up errors during our tests. However, you cannot make the app retain the aspect ratio, or change the default output directory. The new images are automatically delivered to the same directory as the root folder.

If you attempt to create more than one copies of the same image, PictureGirdle automatically overwrites the first copy (this option cannot be changed). Improvements are welcomed in the visual aspect. Nevertheless, first-time users can easily figure out how to work with PictureGirdle, thanks to its intuitive layout.
