Softpedia Editor's Review for River Past Video Perspective

    EDITOR'S RATING:

Video converter with aspect ratio adjustment from AVI, WMV, MPEG, MOV to AVI / WMV

Written by Elena Opris on March 13th, 2012

River Past Video Perspective is a program that you can use to encode video files between various formats, including AVI, MKV, MPEG, MOV and ASF.

The interface of the application is plain and simple. You can import media by using the file browser only, since the "drag and drop" method is not supported (and neither is batch processing).

So, you can set the output frame format and scaling, as well as flip and rotate the image.

But you can also preview the video and take a snapshot, view file properties, load skipped codecs and use the undo and redo functions.

In addition, you can set the aspect ratio, specify the output destination and format, configure audio and video settings (e.g. resolution, compressor, sample frequency rate, channel, bit rate, quality), and proceed with the conversion process.

The software requires a moderate-to-high amount of system resources and includes a step-by-step tutorial with snapshots. On the other hand, we have encountered a lot of issues during our tests. Besides the fact that River Past Video Perspective does not support batch processing, it takes a very long time to complete a task.

For example, it performed an AVI-to-WMV conversion in 6 minutes and 55 seconds, while taking into the account the fact that the AVI file had a length of 5 minutes and 35 seconds.

In addition, it didn't manage to maintain the image quality of the aforementioned AVI-to-WMV conversion, froze when trying to open a SWF file and crashed when opening an MPEG one.

The bottom line is that River Past Video Perspective appears to have a lot of stability issues (at least on Windows 7), so we recommend you look for a more powerful software at this moment.
