Softpedia Editor's Review for X Codec Pack
|
An essential (must have) codec pack
Written by Bogdan Popa on November 4th, 2011
We know how hard it is to find a codec pack that really works and doesn’t slow down the operating system, so every single recommendation is a godsend.
Well, X Codec Pack isn’t one of those complex codec packs that promise to play all files in the universe, but one that contains only the essential codecs, so that you’ll be able to play just the most popular formats.
Of course, just like it happens with any codec, the most important step in the whole using process is installation per se because the package has no interface at all. In fact, the only interface you’ll see after installing the codec pack is the one that will let you play a little bit with the tools included in the suite.
As said, installation is the most important step when trying to deal with X Codec Pack, so extra care is recommended when choosing which components to install.
There’s nothing too complicated, but it may get you in trouble if you’re a beginner, so it’s better to leave things unchanged if you don’t know the geek language.
We’ve tested the pack on a fresh copy of Windows and everything worked like a charm, so we were indeed able to open the most popular formats out there in a second.
The bottom line can’t be anything but positive: X Codec Pack is a decent codec solution that brings only the most essential tools on your PC without hampering the computer at all.
