DVDSubEdit is a tiny and portable piece of kit developed to help you edit subtitles or button highlights in DVD movie menus from files with the .vob format, without having to take them apart. It comes loaded with advanced settings for fairly experienced PC users, and it features support for .sup files.
As there is no setup pack involved, you can drop the executable file anywhere on the disk and just click it to launch DVDSubEdit. It is also possible to move it to a pen drive or other removable storage unit, to immediately run it on any PC effortlessly. Plus, unlike most installers, it doesn't modify Windows registry settings.
The GUI is classical, represented by a normal window that shows all main options in the main frame. You can open .vob files, change the aspect ratio, jump to any subtopic, as well as select the subpics and alter the color and transparency level.
The software application also lets you adjust the vertical and horizontal position of the subtitles, crop the background, reset the start, timing and duration, configure Optical Character Recognition (OCR) settings, erase selected text, remove any parts from the subtitle or typos, as well as to edit them using an external graphic editing app. Once all modifications are made, you can save the file to SRT.
No error dialogs popped up in our evaluation, and the tool did not hang or crash. It leaves a small footprint on system resources, thanks to the fact that it requires low CPU and memory to work properly. Given its advanced options and configuration settings, DVDSubEdit is best suitable for experienced users looking to modify edit subtitles or button highlights in DVD movies without having to demux and remux them.
