Softpedia Editor's Review for Mobiola Web Camera

    EDITOR'S RATING:

The first application that realistically turns your Symbian phone into a webcam and truly replaces your USB camera

Written by Bogdan Popa on December 9th, 2011

Mobiola Web Camera is a software solution designed to turn any modern mobile phone into a mobile web camera, using a dedicated utility that must be installed on both the computer and the handheld.

Although it may seem a bit difficult especially for beginners, it's not, but the most challenging part remains the one where you're supposed to connect the two devices.

As said, Mobiola Web Camera comprises two different apps, one for the computer and the other one for the mobile phone.

You can use either Bluetooth, USB or Wi-Fi to connect the phone to the Windows workstation and, as always, it's better to use the second one for faster data transfers.

The application supports a wide array of mobile phones, including iPhone, Blackberry, Windows Mobile Pocket PC, Windows Mobile smartphones, Symbian S60 and UIQ 3 devices.

If the phone is properly connected to the computer, Mobiola Web Camera should do the rest of the job automatically, but you may encounter a few problems here.

First of all, it all depends on the way you choose to connect the two apps. If you go for Bluetooth, it might be a bit difficult, not only because you have to always be in the coverage area, but also because you may experience signal losses.

The interface is nothing special, but it still helps the app get the job done. You will see the streamed images, along with a bunch of settings, but nothing more. There are some tools to take a snapshot, record a video or add some effects to your camera, but the main purpose of the app remains to turn the mobile phone into a webcam.

So all in all, if everything goes right, you will definitely be satisfied with Mobiola Web Camera. It works on all Windows versions and comes with a quite decent price.
