Real7ime Converter is one of the many software solutions out there aimed at performing multimedia conversions and that promises to help you record live RealPlayer streams. This particular utility is designed to help you obtain AVI, WAV or MP3 files out of RealMedia files.
Neither its functionality, nor the interface impresses at all, since there are a variety of similar applications that can do the same thing and more, while providing a much more appealing look. Furthermore, this program did not receive updates recently, which makes its reliability highly doubtable.
RealMedia files are the proprietary multimedia format of RealNetworks, the developer of RealPlayer. Actually, in order to use Real7ime Converter, RealPlayer must be installed on your computer. Aside from that, audio and video codec packs are also required.
The main interface comprises a few options for choosing the location of the input file and configuring the output saving directory. The ‘Preview’ function is designed to open the converted videos using the default player.
Using the ‘Options’ window, you can choose to convert both images and sounds, videos only or extract the audio and save the files to WAV or MP3 format.
During our tests, the application did not work properly with one of the most recent versions of RealPlayer and failed to perform the conversion as it should for a local file. What’s more, the application cannot fully synchronize the video playback and the sound during conversion, since the user must specify the so-called ‘Synch Error’.
To sum up, there is nothing about Real7ime Converter that recommends it as a viable tool for processing your RealMedia video files, especially since there are other converters that support this format. However, it is worth trying for those who are still using older versions of RealPlayer.
