CatFish

CatFish is a software program that provides users with a simple means of scanning your hard drive, cataloging and sorting your files and directories, as well as saving the resulted lists to a file.

You are not required to go through a setup process, as this utility is portable. Consequently, the Windows registry is not going to be updated with any new entries, without your prior approval and acknowledgment.

Another important aspect is that you can easily move the program files to a removable storage unit, and thus run this product on the fly, on any PC are granted access to.

This application enables you to select the partition that interests you, input a catalog name and, with just a click of the button, start scanning it.

After this process is completed, you can easily view, in the main window general information such as catalog, disk size, free space and date at which the data was saved on. Aside from that, you can also view a folder structure and the contents of a selected directory with ease.

It is possible to sort items according to name, size or date, rename or delete catalogs, rescan disks and use a search function in order to find a specific file. Last but not least, you can easily export a list of all detected files and folders to a TXT document.

This tool does not put a strain on the computer’s performance as it requires insignificant amounts of CPU and memory in order to function properly. The interface is suitable to all, tasks are completed in a fair amount of time and we did not come by any hangs or freezes in our tests.

All things considered, it is safe to say that CatFish is a pretty efficient piece of software which allows you to easily catalog the contents of each and every HDD partition, yet you should know that it does not work on newer operating systems such as Windows 8 or 8.1.
