Keep frequently visited location indexed to be able to find files of interest in a matter of seconds with this practical application #File Index #File Collection #File Catalog #Indexer #Collection #Catalog
Finding files on a crowded computer can be a pain, and it can also take a lot of time for the search tool to index these locations. However, developers came out with refined search tools for fast indexing of locations and instant delivery of file queries. In this regard, Infocentre wants to help you create collections, index them, and find items of interest in the blink of an eye.
The setup process is short and uneventful, and you get the chance to take the application for a spin before you realize. Just be sure to check whether or not your PC is fitted with .NET Framework in order to function, although modern Windows iterations come with it as a default feature.
As far as the visual design is concerned, the main window helps you quickly get the hang of things. Before you start searching collections need to be configured. There’s not exactly a dedicated file type to add to the collection, because these are simply folders you want to keep indexed for fast searching later on.
Once collections are added, selecting one in the main window puts the indexer in motion. Unfortunately, the algorithm used isn’t quite refined, with limitations for characters in paths and filenames, and scanning a complex drive or folder can take a considerable amount of time.
You can choose to keep indexing on automatic mode, or manually trigger it to refresh the list of items. Searching input goes in a dedicated field. There are no parameters to apply, but there is the possibility to look for specific file masks by writing down the extension. Results are instantly displayed, and you can open target files directly from the main window.
Infocentre is rather underprepared to help with complex search operations, and even indexing. Sure enough it works just fine with small directories and quantities of files, but indexing thumb drives and entire partitions can take a little while, and the process encounters different scan issues along the way.
