Crossword Express Compiler is a program that will help you make your own crossword puzzles and wordsearch puzzles from your own word lists and dictionaries.

Crosswords can be of the freeform type using a dictionary having as few as 10 words, or they can be the professional style crosswords you see published every day in your morning paper. A dictionary of over 30,000 words (including clues) is contained in the Demo package.

The program includes a comprehensive set of SOLVE features so that you can enjoy solving the puzzles you have made. This includes a feature for solving WordSearch puzzles, and if you purchase the Pro version, it also includes the Acrostic, Anagram, Sudoku, MorphWord and Kakuro puzzles which Crossword Express will build for you.

Crossword Express software is available in both Windows and Macintosh format for the ONCE ONLY registration fee of $35 US for the Lite version or $140 US for the Pro version. That's right...the regular upgrades are completely FREE.!!

A library of Java applets is available absolutely FREE to registered owners of Crossword Express. The interactive puzzle types can be Crossword, Fill-In, Codeword, Tangled, Fractured, WordFind or WordSearch. Pro version owners can also publish Anagram, Acrostic, MorphWord, Sudoku and Kakuro puzzles, as well as all the additional puzzle types planned to be added in the future.

Here are some key features of "Crossword Express Compiler":

· Edit Puzzle : After a puzzle has been built, changes to individual words and clues may be made using this function. It has largely been superseded by the Manual Construction function, the use of which is strongly recommended for this purpose.
· Rebuild Puzzle : If changes are made to the clues within a dictionary, these changes may be reflected in previously constructed puzzles by the use of the Rebuild function.
· Lockout Words : If it is important that the same words are not used over and over again in a series of puzzles, then they may be locked out of action using this function. They are not lost from the dictionary, and may be reinstated using the Unlock Words function of Dictionary Maintenance.
· Export Puzzle as Text : The Clues and/or the Words used in a puzzle may be exported to a text file located anywhere on the computer's hard drive.
· Export as HTML or XML : This function provides a very quick and easy way to create a web page containing a printable puzzle. The .html file which it creates is immediately usable, or additional content may be added to the page if required.
· Clipboard Export : Export the puzzle, solution or clues separately to the Clipboard, prior to pasting into a WP or DTP document. This has been largely superseded by the Custom Print function which should be the function of first choice when outputting a puzzle.
· Puzzle Conversion : Existing puzzles in the Crossword Compiler and Across Lite format can be converted directly into Crossword Express format.
· Add Colors : Color can be added to any or all cells within a puzzle. Cells need not be all the same color, and if necessary, every cell can be a different color. This is handy for placing a hidden message into the puzzle, and having it gradually appear as the puzzle is solved.
· Tools.
· Matching Words tool : Scan the current dictionary to find every word which matches a given filter string.
· For example the filter string would yield , and .
· Anagrams Tool : For any word, or set of random letters, Crossword Express will list all of the single or multi-word strings which can be formed from exactly that set of letters. For example the word will result in , , and some others.
· Contained Words tool : This tool will list all of the words which can be made from all or just some of the letters provided. For example the word yields the words , , , and amongst others. There is an option to list only those words which include the first letter of the given word.
· Container Words tool : This tool will list those words which contain all of the letters provided. For example, given the letters , the tool will list the words , and as well as a number of others.
