Drawing two-dimensional graphs, creating plans and patterns, or plotting mathematical functions accurately is difficult to do when plain white paper is used. The fine lines that build up the regular grid on graph paper are, obviously, much more suitable for such endeavors. Although you can buy graph paper, an alternative is to use an application such as Graph Paper Maker to create custom graph paper of various types and dimensions.

There is no introduction when launching Graph Paper Maker, as you are immediately presented with all the available graph paper models and styles. Aside from the regular grid paper, there are various other graphic patterns you can use. For each of them a small preview image is displayed, so you can get a glimpse at what the paper will look like.

Graph Paper Maker makes available the axonometric model, note paper, as well as other patterns. There is one particular model fit for engineers, and there are paper templates that are filled with either crosses, dots, or hexagons.

Depending on your choice, Graph Paper Maker displays more or less settings for the selected graph paper. For instance, for the standard regular grid, it's possible to change the page orientation and is format (A4, A3, etc.), and configure the desired dimensions for the graph paper.

The application enables you to alter the scale and modify the dimensions in the X and Y axis. Moreover, you can set the number of lines per centimeter, customize the major spacing and the major weight, and decide upon the value of the hydraulic exponent.

The font is another customizable parameter, and so are the paper margins and the colors to use when drawing the grid.

With Graph Paper Maker you can create custom grid paper, having complete control over important parameters, such as the scale and the axis. The application is easy to use and requires no prior knowledge. However, there is no option in Graph Paper Maker to print the paper directly or export it as an image or a PDF file, which is quite unfortunate.
