Includes all of the necessary common language runtime and class libraries needed to run applications targeted at .NET Framework 2.0

Microsoft .NET Framework is a development platform that provides programmers with the possibility to create applications for Windows computers and servers, for Microsoft Azure, and for mobile devices that run under Windows.

With the help of the .NET Framework programming model, application builders can create, deploy and run their programs on different platforms and systems. At the same time, it allows developers to focus on the writing of code, supplying the underlining layer that allows programs to run smoothly on the target operating system.

The Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 is one of the older releases of the programing model, and includes the .NET Framework runtime, along with all of the associated files that are needed to run programs aimed specifically at .NET Framework 2.0.

Compared to the previous versions, the common language runtime and class libraries included in .NET Framework 2.0 offer improved scalability and performance while also ensuring a smoother software deployment and updating.

Although this version of the Framework might seem obsolete, there are still plenty of applications that require it to be installed in order to run on any version of Windows. It can be installed without conflict alongside .NET Framework 3.5 or .NET Framework 4.0 and above, and does not interfere with the system performance.

By default, .NET Framework 2.0 is offered in English, but users can download .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 Language Packs (x86, x64, and IA64) for French, Korean, Spanish, Italian, German, Japanese, if they want to receive text messages (such as errors) in a different language.

Note: Users can download and install multiple language packs on the same computer. However, they can not install a different language version of .NET Framework 2.0 on the same system.

Developers interested in building applications for .NET Framework version 2.0 should download and install the Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 Software Development Kit (SDK), which provides them with all of the tools, documentation and samples required to build and deploy such programs.
