X-dvdisaster

X-dvdisaster is an approachable and straightforward software application capable of safely storing data on CDs and DVDs so it can be retrieved even after the disc develops read errors. It comes loaded with several handy features that should be easily figured out.

Since installation is not required, you can save the program files to a custom location on the disk and just click the executable to run. Another possibility is to copy X-dvdisaster to a USB flash drive or other removable storage unit to be able to run it on any PC with minimum effort and no previous installers. More importantly, it does not update the Windows registry, so it does not increase the risk of system stability issues, unlike most installers.

The GUI is made from a regular window with an easy-to-navigate interface that provides direct access to the main modules. You can get started by selecting a disc drive along with the new image and error correction files.

X-dvdisaster is capable of reading CD/DVD images into files or attempting to complete an existing image, creating error correction data by using an image, scanning the medium for unreadable sectors, repairing an image using its file and error correction data, as well as verifying the integrity of error correction data and image files.

As far as app configuration goes, you can change the image size (get it from drive, ISO/UDF or ECC/RS02), reading strategy for image creation (linear or adaptive) and image properties, delay time for drive initialization, raw reading mode and reread defective sectors, and so on.

We have not encountered any unpleasant surprises in our tests, since X-dvdisaster did not hang, crash or pop up error messages. It has a good response time and runs on low CPU and RAM, so it shouldn't hog system resources. Bottom line is that this software application offers an effective solution for storing data on CDs and DVDs in secure conditions, backed by several other handy features.
