This is the portable edition of UwAmp, a WAMP server that integrates user-friendly tools for helping you manage Apache and MySQL servers easier.
Since installation is not a prerequisite, you can drop the program files to any location on the hard disk and just click the executable to run.
It is also possible to save UwAmp to a USB flash disk or similar storage unit, in order to run it on any machine effortlessly and without previous installers.
An important aspect to take into account is that the Windows registry does not get updated with new entries, and extra files are not created on the HDD without the user's consent.
The main application window has a clean aspect and contains well-structured options. The Apache and MySQL servers automatically start running at initialization, and you can view their CPU usage.
As far as configuration is concerned, you can select the PHP version, manage PHP extensions and settings, select the Apache mode (online or offline), edit Apache virtual server and modules properties, as well as change MySQL authentication parameters.
Additional tools found in UwAmp can bring up the localhost page, open the program's location in Explorer, run an XDebug client, view PHP information, as well as use an SQLite database browser.
When it comes to general preferences, it is possible to switch to another language for the UI, disable Apache and MySQL from automatically running on UwAmp startup, send the app to the system tray area, modify the default text editing tool, and so on.
UwAmp is light on the system resources, using minimal CPU and RAM. No error dialogs were shown in our tests, and the app did not hang or crash. All in all, UwAmp is a pretty decent WAMP server for anyone interested in managing Apache and MySQL servers.
