Portable SYS Informer1.0 Build 4094
This is the portable edition of SYS Informer, an approachable software utility that fetches system information to help you evaluate your computer's hardware and software abilities. It does not include complex features (like benchmarks) or configuration options, making it accessible to all types of users, even those with little or no previous experience in such apps.
As there is no setup pack involved, you can save the program files in any part of the hard disk and just click the executable to run the tool. It is also possible to move SYS Informer to a pen drive or other removable storage unit, in order to run it on any PC effortlessly and without previous installers.
Worth mentioning is that, unlike most installers, SYS Informer does not modify Windows registry settings or create additional files on the disk, thus leaving no traces behind after its removal.
Hardware and system information
The interface is user-friendly, represented by a single window with a neatly organized layout, where the hardware and system information, along with the system manager can be accessed from separate areas.
You can view details regarding BIOS, CPU, drives and volumes, input devices, network, ports, sound, USB devices and video, in addition to general aspects about the computer such as bootup state, uptime and available physical memory.
When it comes to the OS, system information focuses on installed components (e.g. .NET Framework versions, browser enhancements), date and time, desktop, environment variables, the event viewer, file types, fonts, multimedia codecs, shared locations, special folders, user information and visual styles. It is also possible to study the Win32 class explorer sections: hardware, memory, network, storage, system, and users.
System manager and program configuration
The system manager module shows all installed programs and allows users to remove them (identical to Windows' built-in feature), manage apps which automatically run at OS startup, view and edit OEM information, terminate active processes and services, as well as to start and stop drivers.
SYS Informer can be set to automatically run at system startup until further notice, start minimized to the tray, as well as to minimize or close to the tray. Otherwise, the tray icon can be hidden.
Evaluation and conclusion
We have not come across any stability issues throughout our tests. SYS Informer has a good response time and minimal impact on PC performance. It comes packed with some pretty handy tools for viewing and editing system settings. First-time and advanced users alike can give it a go and see what it's all about, especially since it is free and portable.
