    EDITOR'S RATING

Softpedia Editor's Review for Game Maker Lite

One of the easiest programs to make your own games or even programs!

Written by Elena Opris on October 24th, 2011

Have you ever dreamed about creating your very own computer games? Sure you have. But having no kind of programming skills is probably the reason you never tried to built such a game from scratch.

Game Maker Lite is an awesome compiler which allows you to create mini games, without having to code anything.

All steps are done through a drag-and-drop technique. Simply give the software the command you want, and it shall do as requested.

But if you are keen to learn a gaming programming language, then Game Maker Lite can be switched to advanced mode.

This will allow you to go through more difficult settings and learn a trick or two about how to code a game.

With simple options in easy mode you can create sprites, sounds, backgrounds, object, and rooms - everything a simple game needs to come to life!

More experienced users can also play with paths, scripts, fonts, and time lines, in order to give that extra spark to your own game. Build it in 2D or 3D.

Once you have created an executable, you can choose to publish your new game online, and share it with the rest of the world. Who knows what opportunities might come up...

One small disadvantage of Game Marker Lite is that it uses plenty of memory resources. In addition, some first-time users may experience difficulties even in easy mode, if they are not patient enough to perform a "game test".

In conclusion, Game Maker Lite is an excellent software for users who want to build games, or learn a new programming language. It's especially recommended for young children who want to introduce themselves in the world of programmers.

    Game Maker Lite description

    Requirements:

    · 15 MB disk space.

    · a 3D graphics card compatible with DirectX 8 or higher and with at least 32 MB of video memory is required.
    · a DirectX 8 compatible sound card is required. Make sure all graphics and sound card drivers are up to date.
    · DirectX 8 or higher is required (not included).

    Limitations:

    · Limited functionality
    · Shows a popup logo when running games

What's New in This Release: [ read full changelog ]

    · Text splash screens can no longer show images. However, web splash screens have been added that can show full html documents with images, etc.

    · A number of changes have been made to the functions related to sprite and background resources. This is due to the fact that Game Maker uses a completely new mechanism for these resources. If your game uses a lot of calls to functions that load or save image resources on the fly you are strongly recommended to keep using the old version 7.0 for that game.

    · If you use extension packages you will have to reinstall them.

    · Some changes have been made to the timeline mechanism that can lead to incompatibilities. In particular, assigning a timeline and starting it are now two separate things.

    · An important bug has been solved in which collision events where executed twice if two objects have collision events with each other. Some games however might have relied on this bug and, hence, might no longer function correctly.

Softpedia guarantees that Game Maker Lite 8.1 is 100% CLEAN, which means it does not contain any form of malware, including spyware, viruses, trojans and backdoors. [read more >]
